![]() 14/10/2008 Info Sign Systems has recently completed the installation of two technically difficult signs for British Telecom on the iconic building in Liverpool which has been built for the European City of Culture 2008.
Height of the signage from ground level? - The centerline of the signage was approx 18 metres off the walkway level. Lifting equipment had to be used to gain a further 3 metres on the riverside elevations. What materials were used? Powder coated rolled steel tubular frame with pressed mild steel brackets. All text – aluminium with full internal support frames Installation Time? 12 days Size of crane? Cradle was a Bronto 52 with a 3 metre extendable cage. This plant has the capacity to work at a height of 52 metres with an articulated arm reaching up to 20 metres. Any complications? The design of the building is such that there are no 2 cladding panels on the same plane or axis as each other. Therefore the sub structure fixing frame had to be designed in true 3D to follow and compliment the conical curves of the building to keep the signage consistently vertical. Anything else? The other complication was working in allowable wind conditions ensuring conforming to health and safety at work regulations. The lifting equipment had a maximum permitted working wind speeds of 20 m/s. Thank goodness we had a decent summer in 2008!!
“Info Sign Systems have proved that they have deep experience in the design, development and installation of signs in a complex environment. Info Sign Systems have a sound commercial approach and dealing with them doesn’t require the overhead of commercial, financial, project management that you need when involved with a traditional build programme. In short, you agree the price, they got on with it, you get a stunning sign!. If only all build related programmes were this simple!” Ian Butcher, Regional Director, BT Local Government |
